CBS News reports there’s a brand new viral challenge taking place on TikTok that’s certain to kill someone very soon. Some are calling it the Electrical Outlet Challenge and others are calling it the Penny Challenge, but it should really be called The Darwin Awards Induction Ceremony.
Now, in the past people have eaten a spoonful of cinnamon, lit themselves on fire, AND blindfolded themselves after watching a damn Netflix movie. But now, attention-starved kids have upped the dumbness.
This challenge involves people (aka teenagers thirsty for TikTok attention) taking a penny and sliding it behind a plugged-in phone charger so they can see sparks fly like the Fourth of July. Apparently, people have forgotten that no one should ever challenge electricity, because that bitch causes instant fatalities like Mortal Kombat. However this challenge is causing quite a stir in Massachusetts where brilliant teens have already almost electrocuted themselves and caused a fire at their school, which had to be evacuated.
The incident in Plymouth North High School on Tuesday was caused by two students who used a penny along with a cellphone charger to short-circuit an electrical outlet, according to Plymouth Chief of Police Michael E. Botieri.
“This behavior is very dangerous and has potential to cause serious damage to property as well as serious injury to students,” Botieri said. He added that “anyone involved will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”
Both 15-year-old students are charged with two counts of attempted arson and malicious damage to property under $1,200, Plymouth police said in a statement.
How bored do you have to be to do something like this? I mean, it’s true that our generation used to dump Mentos into Pepsi bottles, but it’s not like we would also shove those bottles down our throats to see how much liquid our mouths could hold. We all waited for prom night for that experiment. Or, maybe that was just me.
