Everyone, take a break from reading terrifying minute by minute COVID-19 updates, and distract yourself with some fluff. ASAP! Here, watch these cute videos of penguins that Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium took after closing due to coronavirus. Lookit! The rockhopper penguins are free from their enclosures. Now they’re waddling around the aquarium checking out all the other animals. Like they’re tiny tuxedo tots.
Here are the vids:

Penguins like Edward and Annie will begin to build their nests next week. Join us digitally for nesting coverage! In the meantime, we will be sharing lots of different animal updates (and yes, Wellington will return!) Image may be NSFW.

And, yes, the penguins are cute. But these videos are making me a little sad, too. The penguins are like, “What the fuck is this shit? Why can’t I eat those fish? Where are the exits? WHAT IS GOD?!”
But maybe I’m just projecting my own two-day experience as a prisoner in my apartment with just my wee cat, Bob, as company. Maybe these penguins really are having a lovely time exploring the aquarium. And maybe, just maybe, all will be right with the world. Now if you’ll excuse me, I must take another Silkwood shower and get the ol’ screams out.
