A dewy Sharon Stone received GQ’s Woman of the Year award and recreated her most infamous film moment (no, not drunkenly shrieking at Robert DeNiro on the front lawn wearing a gold lame’ jumpsuit in Casino, the other one) during her acceptance speech. Sharon had Billy Porter bring out a chair for her to sit upon while she spoke, and told the story behind her cooch-flashing in Basic Instinct and how it changed her life.
Here’s the clip:
Sharon went on to speak rather eloquently about that particular moment in film history and how her uncrossing and crossing her legs one time has followed her all of her life. via People
“Some years ago, I was sitting on a soundstage and my director said, ‘Can you hand me your underpants? Because we’re seeing them in the scene, and you shouldn’t have underpants on. But we won’t see anything,’” Stone recalled. “And I said, ‘Sure.’ I didn’t know that this moment would change my life.”
Stone then encouraged the crowd to imitate the pose alongside her, asking them, “Do you feel empowered?”
I’m not sure I felt empowered. You have to be careful leg crossing as a dude because, if you do it the wrong way or too eagerly, you can injure yourself in that region. It occurs to me that could be exactly what Sharon was getting at with her speech and I feel you, Shar. Point taken.
