If you’ve seen Ready Player One (don’t rush), you recall that there’s a whole sequence in the middle where (SPOILER ALERT) Steven Spielberg basically recreates Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining for the characters to run through. He uses the exact same set, the creepster twins, the decaying witch lady in the tub, the blood wave out of the elevator, the whole bit. Well, this footage from Denver’s CBS4 (via The Huffington Post) of a black bear wandering around The Shining’s inspiration (The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado) is about 10x more captivating than that at way less of a budget.
The Stanley is the hotel that inspired Stephen King to write The Shining about a recovering alcoholic caretaker and his family snowed in at a haunted hotel. On Wednesday night, the bear (who might be a horror movie fan) broke in to wander around the hotel lobby and play on the furniture.
Hotel manager Reed Rowley told Denver’s CBS4 that it happened overnight Wednesday and that no guests were around.
“We do have a hotel next to a national park,” Rowley said. “Wildlife is part of the gig.”
There’s no word how the bear broke into the joint. Luckily this occurred late at night and no one was hurt. But Rowley says that they’re working with Colorado Parks and Wildlife in deterring future critters from checking in.
Was the bear as traumatized as I was when he saw those twins and they asked him to come play with them? Fourth-grade J. Harvey learned that parents bar you from seeing certain movies for a reason. *terrified scream*
