As you already know, the legendary Tina Turner has gained her wings to sing at that Greatest of All Time concert in Heaven. Many have paid homage to Tina on social media to honor her legacy and mourn her loss. But while others simply wrote words of praise, another outspoken artist from the new generation, Lizzo, strapped on her dancing boots to honor Tina in the right way with an electrifying performance of Proud Mary at her show in Phoenix, Arizona last night.

Entertainment Tonight reports much like the rest of the world Lizzo had nothing but words of praise for the icon, the legend, Anna Mae Bullock of House Nutbush. During the Phoenix stop on her Special Tour, Lizzo held back tears before channeling all of her energy into kicking ass on stage performing one of Tina’s greatest hits ‘Proud Mary’. And Tina’s spirit must have softly whispered “You better be good to me” into Lizzo’s ear right before she began singing because not only was she good, she was great.

The chill-inducing performance was captured and shared on social media, along with her remarks about Turner’s enduring legacy.

“Today, we lost an icon,” Lizzo said. “And I haven’t allowed myself to be sad. I haven’t allowed myself to cry about it. And I don’t want to right now because I’d much rather celebrate the incredible legend Tina Turner is. As a Black girl in a rock band, I would not exist if it was not for the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll.”

She concluded by shouting three times: “There would be no rock ‘n’ roll without Tina Turner!”

THEN, as if Tina jumped into her body like one of those spirits from Ghost, Lizzo literally transformed into Tina as she kicked up her heels and gave everyone the tribute we all deserved for such a beloved Rock and Roll pioneer:

Meanwhile, upstairs in the Upper Room as all the artists we’ve lost welcomed Tina with open arms, Whitney Houston probably ran over to her screaming “TINAAAAA!!!” before whipping out her tablet and showing her Lizzo’s tribute. And with a tear dropping from her eye, Tina softly said, “She’s simply the best.” Rest well, Icon.
