While I love me a nice ice cream, I find it hard to spend too much on a gourmet flavor when I’m just as happy eating a plain vanilla cone. It’s the curse of having a Neanderthal palate. If you’re someone like me who believes that a $6-$8 Ben & Jerry’s Chunky Monkey is a tad too indulgent, then you are not the core audience for Byakuya. If you’re looking to blow over $6000 on ice cream, then this scoop’s for you!

A Japanese ice cream company wondered, “What’s the fastest way to melt away someone’s bank account?” and voila! Byakuya was born. Guinness World Records has officially declared it the world’s most expensive ice cream thanks to its rare ingredients. The NY Post reports:

A Japanese ice cream company has gathered some of the rarest and most luxurious ingredients and turned them into the world’s most expensive ice cream — priced at a whopping $6,696 per serving.

The pricey sweet treat is made out of white truffle grown in Alba, Italy, a rare delicacy that costs about $6,905 per pound.

The distinguished dessert also includes Parmigiano Reggiano and sake lees (or sake kasu), a by-product of Japanese sake production that is, indeed, alcoholic (8%).

You can’t have a rich people dessert without the obligatory edible gold leaf, of course! Apparently, it took a little over a year to make this dessert for the bourgeoisie, with the head chef trying his best to get the combination of European and Japanese flavors juuuuuuuuust right. With Byakuya complete, Cellato plans on making more luxury desserts for those who own two superyachts. While the uber-wealthy may be able to enjoy the Byakuya’s delicate medley of flavors, most everyone else would take a lick and think, “Mmm, tastes like bankruptcy!”
