One of the most popular songs of the 1980s, Lionel Ritchie‘s ambitious song about partying into the wee hours of the morning All Night Long, officially turns the big 4-0 this year. And though the song is still played at cookouts and wedding receptions, fueling nostalgic drunkenness for all in attendance, Lionel recently made a claim about a different all-nighter he can no longer perform. As someone who’s in bed by 10:30pm, I would have to say Lionel is not the only one whose dances (or doing anything else) ’til daylight days are done.
The New York Post reports Lionel’s admission of being too pooped to the party came during an interview where wacky things happen every day; The View. While seated with fellow American Idol judges Katy Perry and Luke Bryan, the subject of All Night Long came up, and since Lionel couldn’t let the opportunity pass to make the ladies blush, he transformed into Steve Harvey real quick to give them an update about how long a little Lionel lovin’ lasts these days.
During a Tuesday appearance on “The View,” the 73-year-old musician talked about his hit song “All Night Long (All Night)” for its 40th anniversary — and made an NSFW admission.
He appeared on the talk show alongside his fellow “American Idol” judges Katy Perry and Luke Bryan to promote the 21st season of the show.
“Let me give you the first part that I have to really, really say to you,” Richie said. “When I wrote ‘All Night Long,’ it was truly all night long.”
He continued, joking, “Now my ‘all night long’ is down to a fierce 15 minutes. But, don’t worry, we’ll talk about that later!”
Upon hearing the promise of a one-quarter hour of passion, Katy immediately perked up to inform Lionel fifteen minutes is a long time. And you know what? I would have to agree. Nobody has time for over an hour of fucking and then trying to muster up the strength for extra innings anymore. Because who wants to be wiped out from trying to please your partner when the real pleasure comes from making sure the mortgage is paid and there’s food in the fridge. The only “all nighter” any of us should be concerned with is how long we can last before we pass out during our latest Netflix binge.
