Earlier this year we learned Daniel Radcliffe was going to play Weird Al Yankovic in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, which will, for some insane reason, stream exclusively on The Roku Channel. Today, the trailer dropped, and it looks like the movie is a send-up of gritty Oscar-baity music biopics. We see Weird Al lose himself to drugs and booze (the real Al is a teetotaler), have a steamy affair with Madonna (Evan Rachel Wood), and viciously put out a cigarette on Will Forte’s hand. So this flick’s a parody of a parodist. Trippy.
Here’s the trailer, which also features Rainn Wilson as Dr. Demento, Quinta Brunson as Oprah, Julianne Nicholson and Toby Huss as Al’s late parents, and the real Weird Al in a cameo as a record executive:
The movie is written by Weird Al and Funny or Die’s Eric Appel, who also directs. Eric produced an extremely similar fake trailer for the then-fake movie back in 2010 (starring Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul):
Having seen both trailers, I’m definitely more into Harry Potter’s version of Weird Al. Mainly because of this:
The question is: am I attracted to ripped Daniel Radcliffe, ripped Weird Al Yankovic, or ripped DanAl Yankocliffe? Sigh. I guess the only way to find out is to get the Roku Channel. Goddammit.
