With gas prices still as high as a giraffe’s ass and inflation heavily affecting things like groceries, leave it to the luxury industry to laugh at the expense of the average American by creating knockoff poor people shit and selling it at a premium. Balenciaga has done this before, like that time they made Croc stilettos or a bootleg Ikea bag and charged thousands of dollars for them; this time they’ve crafted a calfskin handbag that would give Oscar The Grouch the down-low tingles, because it’s basically just a leather trash bag that they’ve deemed the “Trash Pouch.”
According to Yahoo! News UK, the almost $2,000 bag, which comes in a couple of colors, is the brainchild of Balenciaga’s creative director, Demna Gvasalia, who was once seen using an empty chip bag as a purse.
The luxury fashion house is selling a drawstring calfskin pouch in the shape of a trash bag for nearly $2,000. The brand’s “trash pouch” comes in four different colorways: black, white and red, blue and black, or yellow and black.
And it’s not the first time they’ve tried to turn trash into treasure. Demna Gvasalia, Balenciaga’s creative director, turned up to Antwerp’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts’ graduate fashion show using an empty bag of Lays as a purse.
But on the new $1,790 trash bag, he told WWD, “I couldn’t miss an opportunity to make the most expensive trash bag in the world, because who doesn’t love a fashion scandal?”
Is the scandal that one of these days I wouldn’t be overly surprised to see Hefty brand trash bags at the grocery store marked not too far off from $1,790? Here’s Balenciaga’s version in all its trashy glory:
And people obviously took to Twitter to roast the bags, as I’m sure Balenciaga intended:

And if “Balenciaga” and “trash bag” caused your brain to immediately land on Kim Kardashian, pat yourself on the rump, because of course she has one of these bags, no doubt acquired as a reminder of the fame and fortune she can partly attribute to her ass, despite Paris Hilton’s derogatory early 2000s comments about Kim’s funk trunk resembling a trash bag.
