The Dodo says that earlier this month, writer Julee Balko couldn’t open her bathroom door. Try as she might, she couldn’t get in. So she turned on her phone’s camera and slid it under the door to see if she could figure out the problem. The picture (top right) identified the door-blockers: Julee’s new kittens, Dandelion and Bumble. Somehow, these two mischief-makers closed the door behind them and opened a cabinet drawer, which blocked the bathroom door from opening from the outside. Probably revenge for making them shit in a box. “No more toilet for you, mommy!”
Julee tells Zenger News:
“When you first get kittens, it’s advised you put them into a safe space like a bathroom where they can litter train faster and get acclimated. We also have a huge rescue dog, so we wanted to introduce the animals to each other slowly.
“I thought we did a great job of kitten-proofing the bathroom until one day I went to open it and couldn’t.”
Julee says that when she and her husband saw the picture of the kittens, they burst out laughing. She decided to chronicle the mishap on Twitter:
Action shot of kittens actively not helping. Hinges of door are inside so can’t take it off. I’m cursing outside. pic.twitter.com/ggAKL8Lay5

One of the kittens complicated things when she jumped into the drawer, physically preventing Julee from closing it:

Eventually, Julee managed to break back into her bathroom by hitting the drawer with a stick (despite the fact that “the kittens loved swatting everything we tried”). The drawer closed, the door opened, and the kittens were freed. Julee assured everyone that, from now on, she was taping her drawers shut:
After an hour of bending hangers, tools, sticks, weird shaped pliers, and basically anything we could shove through the crack of the door we successfully got the drawer closed and door open. Cats were disappointed the game was over. Humans were happy and taped the drawers shut.

Julee’s bathroom kitty mishap went viral, with almost 150K likes on Twitter. In the comments, she wrote that her dog was not impressed, especially because the shenanigans delayed her walk:

Poor doggie. Just two days into getting new kitten siblings, and they’re already fucking with her routine and demanding all of mom’s attention. I do believe this is the dawning of the biggest feud since Bette Davis vs. Joan Crawford. Ryan Murphy, line 1!
