If you’ve been in the mood lately to have a “consistently-ranked-people’s-third-choice-when-only-given-three-choices” flavored ice cream treat from most people’s “wasn’t-my-first-choice” fast food restaurant, then you’re in luck! Wendy’s has just rolled out a new Frosty flavor that’s making its first appearance ever at their US locations–strawberry!
For a limited time, your mouth can have the lingering taste of what I would imagine is reminiscent of Herbal Essences conditioner and “alright, fuck it.” Wendy’s says that Frosty fans have been asking for a strawberry-flavored one for a long time and they finally decided to cave. Via Yahoo! Finance:
“We’re always listening to our fans, and as the most-requested item, it was a no-brainer for us to bring the Strawberry Frosty to the menu this season,” Wendy’s exec Carl Loredo said in a release.
The Strawberry Frosty had a successful rollout with our neighbors to the north first, and then Miss Wendy decided to test it in two markets that seem to have refined palates reflective of those of this entire fine nation–West Virginia and a Walmart in Ohio. Walmart IS the stalwart sociological observation tank of this nation, so it makes sense.
Last spring, the flavor successfully debuted in Canada and was then tested in the U.S. in Charleston, West Virginia. The flavor has also been available at the Walmart Hamburger Stand location in Heath, Ohio.
Wendy’s execs tried to throw some subtle shade at McDonald’s ice cream machines always being “broken” (which is actually probably just code for employees cleaned out the machine already, now go-on’, git); so I guess the Wendy’s marketing angle isn’t that the Strawberry Frosty is delicious, but that “at least if you order one, we’ll give it to you.” Tempting.
“While some of our competitors are still trying to get their ice cream machines to work, fans can dip into this new strawberry treat all summer long at Wendy’s,” he said in a release.
Enjoy this exciting innovation in mediocrity while it lasts.
The Strawberry Frosty will be available alongside the famed chocolate Frosty. However, in most restaurants, a vanilla option will not be available since it will be used as a base for the strawberry flavoring.
If you’re a Vanilla Frosty aficionado, you’re out of luck until summer’s end, so don’t even ask, K? It’s chocolate or strawberry, or go somewhere else for something that tastes better than either of those anyway.
