Gen Z really seems obsessed with the recent past as they’ve brought back basically every fashion item from the 90s–even the ugly ones–and they’ve also been digging through the early 2000s for more inspiration. Enter: Hilary Duff. TikTok has been loving Hilary’s single from the album, With Love, which was also the name of her perfume. But the song isn’t the main attraction to Gen Z’s interest, it’s the half-assed soft choreography Hilary would do at the end of her live performances which has become a TikTok dance. It’s the Hilary Duff With Love Challenge! And Hilary, being the name-sake of the challenge, has finally added her own contribution.
Just so we’re clear, I memorized this dance fourteen years ago before it was cool. I’m not saying I’m a trendsetter a decade ahead of my time, but I’m not sure we can close that door completely. And now Hilary is following in my TikTok’s footsteps and has got herself some free promo from the gig she originally had years ago. RE-RECORD YOUR ALBUMS TAYLOR SWIFT STYLE!–Hey! Who said that? E! News says that clips of Hilary performing from the early 2000s have been making the TikTok rounds for months–like this one of her from The Tonight Show back when it was still hosted by Jay Leno:
Look at those chunky necklaces and double-layered tank top–that’s a 2000s going-out outfit if I’ve ever seen one! Hilary got in on the dance-craze and posted a duet of her version to TikTok and Instagram, writing: “So I can stop receiving texts about this.”
Giving just as much energy as she did in 2007–very little! But finally! I have been waiting a decade for Hilary’s album Dignity to take off! Now maybe I’ll finally get a sequel to her music video for With Love which ended as a cliffhanger with her and Kellan Lutz plummeting in an elevator to an unknown fate!
She had to steal a Velma Kelly wig from Catherine Zeta-Jones to make this video! It deserves a conclusion!
