If you haven’t watched Netflix’s crazy show Squid Game yet, please don’t. Unless you want your childhood ruined and endless nightmares waking up in a cold sweat screaming “GREEN LIGHT!” because that shit is dark. Still, the show has been highly successful and birthed many memes and parodies. And Saturday Night Live got into Squid Game mania last night in the form of a country music video featuring guest host Rami Malek and Pete Davidson.
Rami and Pete turn on the country twang to sing about just how shitty their lives are and killing their friends and rivals alike was the only option left as they enter the deadly game. Honestly, if you are one of the sick, twisted people who actually did watch Squid Game (like me, and I loved it!) then you’ll realize they hit every major plot point in the show including the least fun game of Red Light, Green Light and the innocent honeycomb game that could either result in a delicious treat or a buffet of bullets all up and through your brain. via HuffPo:
The two begin in typical C&W duds and settings, ruefully singing about their woes and lack of cash. “Guess I gotta play the Squid Game,” they croon.
Then things get creepy, but they stay nearly as relaxed, even while playing a deadly round of “red light, green light.”
Here’s the clip, which may make some people say, “I’d rather play red light, green light with that scary robot than watch an SNL clip.”
SNL obviously missed an opportunity here. Of course, they want to capitalize on Squid Game‘s popularity before we all move on to the next thing but placing these two pasty dudes together in a video would have served better in a Halloween parody instead. I mean look at them? Even Michael Myers would run and hide. Because their blank faces and eyes will be haunting my nightmares for the next few months far more than Squid Game ever will.
