Where were you ten years ago on this exact date? Well, unless you’re one of those cursed brainiacs who can recall every single second of their life, you probably have no clue. Let me help you out: February 10th, 2011 was the day Rebecca Black’s music video for the song “Friday” hit the Internet, catapulting the then-13-year-old to viral infamy, which, according to her, almost ruined her life. Well, Rebecca survived, and she’s back with a “glitched out” electronic remix and updated music video. And if you thought the original was an earsore, you ain’t heard nothin’ yet!
The new song features new vocals from Big Freedia, 3OH!3, and Dorian Electra. They’re also in the video, along with a bunch of cartoon memes from the Internet, including Trollface and the Me Gusta guy. You see, they’re the only ones who can understand her life as a viral pariah.
Here’s the video, in which Rebecca does her best Grimes impression:
Here’s what Rebecca, now 23, had to say about the new track, via Billboard:
“I’d had the idea to do this remix of Friday for years leading up to now, but honestly it was also mildly insane for me to think anyone else would want to be a part of it,” Black said of the song in a statement. “As I started talking about it with other artists and producers, I couldn’t believe how stoked people were about it. I am thrilled to have some of my favorite artists (and people) as a part of this moment.”
Hmmm, too bad she didn’t enlist help from her frequent collaborator/Demi Lovato’s two-second fiancé/stalker Max Ehrich. Here, flush out your poor ear canals with the original, which is now officially a retro classic that is probably playing on oldies radio stations:
