That’s it, folks. We did it! It seemed impossible, after the invention of a television show where people watch other people playing TAG! But well, there’s a new game show that straddles the edge of entertainment and looks more like the ultimate exercise in trolling. That’s right, there is now a new reality show on Netflix based on everybody’s favorite childhood game, “Floor is Lava”.
You know, there’s a reason why kids liked playing this game so much back in the day. BECAUSE THEY WERE KIDS! A trip to the gym was the last thing on a 7-year-old’s mind. According to Mashable, this living nightmare is being billed as the “hottest game show in history” (fuck off, everybody knows the hottest game show in history was “Supermarket Sweep“). It’s like Fun House meets Wipeout meets WTF. In it, contestants literally jump on tables and swing from light fixtures in order to avoid dropping into faux lava. For…points? I guess?
Top Gear host Rutledge Wood breaks it down as follows: (1) anything and everything in the room is in play; (2) for every player that gets across, the team receives a point; (3) the team with the most points at the end of their run, or the fastest time in case of a tie, wins $10,000; and (4) don’t fall in because — say it with me — the floor is LAAAVAAAA!
