I don’t identify as bisexual. I’m the whole hog when it comes to my gayness and yes, that was a bad pun. So I had no idea that bisexual people sit in a certain way? Or at least that’s a meme.
According to LGBTQ Nation, here’s how that meme goes:
Bisexuals have a meme of their own – bi people simply cannot sit straight. The belief, largely created within the bisexual community itself, has become a harmless way to poke fun at each other within bi community spaces.
LGBTQ Nation’s post goes on to say that straight people supposedly sit with both feet on the floor and bisexuals just can’t!
While straight people sit with both feet on the floor, bisexual people supposedly throw one leg over the arm of their chair or sit with one foot tucked under.
So bi people needed something to sit on that was built expressly for them. Brazilian cartoonist Má Matiazi got busy and designed “The Bi-Chair.”
And then a Starbuck barista named Israel Walker ran with it.
“My daughter (who identifies as bisexual genderfuck) thinks that her and other LGBTQ+ folks inability to sit ‘normally’ is hilarious,” said Walker on Facebook. “So I asked Má if I could make my own rough style of Bi-Chair and she said yes!”
Walker says he’s currently working on “The Mach 2” version of The Bi-Chair. And you know some asshole is going to create “The Gay Chair” that comes with a certain attachment in the seat and will it be available in time for Christmas? Just curious.
