Thanks to Dracula and the unfair anti-bloodsucker media, bats get a bad rap, and most people are at least a little bit scared of them. But in reality, they are freaking adorable with their squishy wittle faces and chicken wing arms, and eat lots of bad disease-carrying bugs like mosquitoes.
That said, if a bat gets in your house you are probably going to freak out a little bit. Once my nephew was alone in the house (he was 12 at the time), and a bat flew in, and he hid in the closet with the phone and left the most pathetic voicemail for his dad on the answering machine. We still play it all the time even though it was almost 10 years ago. He will never, ever live it down.
Well, lucky for my nephew, there’s a new bat freaker-outer in town. Mashable brings to us an Irish family who recently filmed an intense kitchen bat-capade. You have got to love the Irish and their ability to tell a story or, as in this case, narrate a harrowing adventure. Between the mom’s face pressed against the glass door, the multiple near miss towel tosses (“He’s making a mockery out of ya!”) and my favorite part, when the family dog gets in on the action and pees on the floor (“The dog’s pissing!”), there’s so much to love. After an awful lot of screaming and pearl clutching, the bat eventually gets released unharmed (presumably) outdoors. It’s a great bit of craic for a Wednesday!
