Last week Chesapeake, Virginia resident Tykesha Cherry took her 10-month-old Maltese poodle, Lucky (above left), to the pet groomer for a snazzy new haircut. But when she picked her puppy up later that day, she noticed something was off. Lucky wasn’t responding to his name, his fur looked different, and his paws were “crusty.” Tykesha called her boyfriend “to make sure I wasn’t tripping” before she returned to the groomer. Her hunch proved correct: the salon gave her the wrong dog. This wasn’t Lucky! This was Bentley! Tykesha was not happy about the mixup, and, judging by his death stare in the above pic, Bentley wasn’t too thrilled either. “Lady, who the FUCK are you?”
Here’s Tykesha’s Facebook post explaining the incident:
Tykesha went into more detail in an interview with the Southwest News Service, via People:
“I went to pick up my puppy, I went in and the lady at the desk said, ‘Oh, you’re here for Bentley?’ I said, ‘No, I’m here for Lucky.’ As she’s walking away to fetch the dog, I was dealing with the receipt. I look up, and there’s a dog in my face.”
“I didn’t get a chance to get a good look at him, all I saw was white. I go to the car and I put him in. He turned around and I thought, ‘He looks so different, am I tripping?’ ” Cherry added.
When she went back to the salon, she told staff this wasn’t her dog:
“They were shocked, everybody was in shock,” she said. “I get the mix-up, they’re both white, but I thought they’d have tags in the back or something.”
Tykesha knows that people are getting a kick out of how pissed off Bentley looks in his photo, but she insists that “he was the sweetest dog and very much clingy.” But the signs were there:
“Bentley had a very different personality to Lucky. Bentley was barking out the window — Lucky doesn’t do that, Lucky is a crier.”
“When I picked Bentley up, he was jumping towards my neck, like he wanted me to hold him close. I was thinking, ‘What’s wrong with you? Why do you keep doing that?’ ” Cherry said, adding that she “definitely felt relieved when I was reunited with Lucky.”
When asked to comment on the mix-up, Bentley told reporters, “It’s whatever, but why’d Tykesha have to tell everybody my paws ‘crusty’?! I thought we were cool!”
