We’ve all made the mistake of hearing a Mariah Carey song and thinking, “Is that actually Mariah Carey or is it two-time Nobel Peace Prize recipient Marie Curie?” Marie Curie is the physicist best known for discovering radioactive elements polonium and radium and being the only person to win a Nobel Peace Prize in two different categories. Mariah Carey is the pop star diva who loves rainbows, her lambs and doesn’t know who Jennifer Lopez is. Some might think it’s hard to mistake these two glamorous divas, but a bakery in England did just that.
According to Vice:
It seems like it would be impossible to mistake Curie for Carey—or vice-versa—but a group of well-meaning Brits somehow did that very thing. “My cousin in England told her colleagues she wanted a Mariah Carey birthday cake,” novelist Harriet Alida Lye tweeted. “They misunderstood, and is the cake they made her instead. It’s Marie Curie, looking very festive.”
In fairness (had Marie Curie not died in 1934), it looks like she would do a mean karaoke cover of Dreamlover.
This cake got a lot of attention online and even got back to Mimi herself. Mimi tweeted this response to the cake:
This could've been me if only I hadn't failed remedial math happy birthday Siobhan!! https://t.co/Ffz69lTRkc

The cake is something to behold and the difference between Marie Curie and Mariah Carey is pretty awesome. I like trying to picture a Marie Curie music video that involves gold bikinis and world renowned science. Or Mariah Carey holding a beaker and trying to put on a dress that goes up to her neck.
Of course the internet had some cake jokes:
Checking the replies to make sure no one beat me to the “she looks radiant!” reply.

And people then turned it into a fight between who’s a better person: Mariah Carey or Marie Curie. Which is a fight, I’ll be honest, I did not see coming:
Fyi, mariah is not just a singer, but a songwriter and producer a living legend who inspired many. Advocate and has raised milllion dollars for charity programs , i could go on.

Either way, it turns out Siobhan had a hell of birthday! Also, I fully support making weird birthday cakes. I love photo cakes and the fact that you just pull any image off the internet and slap it on a cake. So far (and much to the dismay of everyone working at the Stop and Shop bakery department) I have made cakes starring Judge Judy, The Golden Girls, a random meme, and strange pictures of my crazy father. I’m definitely on some sort of photo cake watch list but it’s totally worth it. If I had only thought of Marie Curie!!
